Controller
Salary Range: $180,000 -$195,000
Status: Exempt
Location: Salinas, CA
Reports to: VP Finance & CFO
GENERAL DISCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Controller will be responsible for accounting, taxes, financial controls, and audit matters based on GAAP, including technical accounting guidance, general ledger closings, financial reporting, variance analysis on consolidated balance sheet and P&L, fixed assets, leases, capital projects, inventory, A/P, local and federal taxes, internal controls and forecasting of working capital and cash flow .
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION- The Controller is responsible for developing and maintaining:
- Monthly Close
- Accounting Policies
- Accounts Payables
- Controls and Procedures
- Taxes
- Accounting Systems, to ensure the integrity of financial statements and reporting of operational results.
- Leads all General Ledger, Reporting and Technical accounting and tax functions.
- Drives the monthly close process ensuring the Company’s financial/accounting process is performed in a timely and accurate manner according to US GAAP.
- Develop and maintain Balance Sheet reconciliations
- Partners with other Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams to ensure consolidated financials are complete and accurate, and accounting is consistent across all business units.
- Develops, coaches, and manages a team of accounting and finance personnel. Establishes goals and measures to track the success of the department.
- Supports external audit requirements for quarterly reviews and annual audits.
- Responsible for implementation of new accounting standards for GAAP
- Maintains and continuously improves the existing Internal Control environment, ensuring that all policies, controls, and process improvement activities are consistently applied to support operational requirements
- Reviews financial fluctuations of financial statements at business functional segment level and provides variance analysis.
- Readily accepts new opportunities and takes appropriate actions to ensure the work is done; energizes team members to achieve timely results; sets expectations and empowers others to solve problems; demonstrates good judgment; facilitates successful and appropriate solutions.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
- 10-15 years of progressive related experience in public and private companies.
- JD Edwards, AS400 experience preferred.
- Supervisory or management experience required.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in agricultural, distribution, and manufacturing operations is very helpful.
- Strong attention to detail and a desire to assume new responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
- Language Requirements: English is required, Spanish knowledge can be helpful.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) and/or up to 25 lbs.
WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to work beyond the normal work hours during period close week and final weeks of the budget cycle if required.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- B.A. or B.S. in Finance or Accounting required
- CPA/MBA preferred
