Role Overview

As an AI Engineer at Maxima, you’ll work at the intersection of AI systems and product, building agentic workflows that power real-world enterprise accounting automation. This role is not pure research or modeling—you’ll focus on turning modern AI capabilities into reliable, production-ready systems used by customers every day.

You’ll design and iterate on prompts, evaluations, and model interfaces; build and orchestrate agent workflows; and integrate AI components deeply into our product and infrastructure. A core part of the role is ensuring AI-driven systems are reliable and scalable, especially in high-stakes financial workflows.

You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to ship end-to-end features, and you’ll help shape how AI is developed, tested, and deployed across the company. We value engineers who are pragmatic, product-minded, and excited to push AI systems from experimentation into dependable production.

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years building product at high-growth companies

• Familiarity with latest AI developments, practices, and frameworks

• Familiarity with web development, relational databases, and distributed systems

• Experience with data pipelines, mission-critical systems (e.g. fintech), or complex workflow engines is a plus

• Loves in-person culture, we are 5 days a week in office in downtown San Mateo
