Research Engineer

Akkodis is seeking a Research Engineer for a Contract with a client in Mountain View, CA. Candidate must have strong expertise in robot learning and advanced AI model development to be considered for the position.

Rate Range: $50/hour to $66/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Research Engineer job responsibilities include:

• Designs advanced robot learning architectures such as diffusion models, VLM/VLAs, imitation learning, and control policies for manipulation and autonomous behaviors.

• Develops end‑to‑end training pipelines that integrate multimodal sensory inputs with action outputs for real‑world robotic execution.

• Builds policy inference and closed‑loop control systems that connect perception, planning, and motion on physical robotic platforms.

• Applies large‑scale AI architectures—including LLMs, diffusion models, and vision‑language models—to embodied tasks and sim‑to‑real adaptation.

• Collaborates with cross‑functional hardware and research teams to deploy robotic policies with high safety, robustness, and repeatability.

• Leads data strategy for demonstrations, teleoperation sessions, simulation workflows, and evaluation frameworks to advance robot learning initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

• Candidate must have a PhD in a relevant STEM field, or a master’s degree with equivalent industry experience in robotics, robot learning, or embodied AI.

• 4–6 years of hands‑on experience building, training, and deploying machine learning models for robotic systems.

• Candidate should have strong proficiency in modern AI architectures such as transformers, diffusion models, VLM/VLAs and extensive experience training models at scale using PyTorch.

• Candidate must possess solid capability in ROS/ROS2 integration, closed‑loop control development, and deploying learned policies onto real robotic hardware.

Pay Details: $50.00 to $66.00 per hour
