Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations. Role Summary: In this role, you will lead the system design process to analyze upstream requirements (vehicle architectures, vehicle product features, vehicle powertrain architectures, Pack design architectures), and align into the sub-system control architecture focused on battery control. You will be at the forefront of development decisions to determine the overall electronics control elements of the Battery Control System including all controllers, actuators, and sensors needed to achieve performance and safety of the battery product. You will lead the application and adoption of new and emerging technologies for optimization and improvement of the battery control system to maximize manufacturability, serviceability, cost, diagnostics, reliability, and many other metrics. Responsibilities: Deliver and release the Battery Control System architecture and requirements:
  • Lead functional development through analysis of impact of architectural changes to fulfill upstream requirements via decomposed HW and SW requirements with expected performance, including control, sensing, state estimation, diagnostic etc.
  • Create/update/modify/manage documentation to maintain accurate engineering work products; work with related engineers to review/approve/validate/release the deliverables and changes following Rivian engineering process and toolchains
  • Represent the Battery Control Systems Engineering Team as a subject matter expert in Battery Control functional areas in crossfunctional development teams
  • Determine the correct strategy for the definition of diagnostics and reactions to failure modes in the system using knowledge and understanding of the presence of high-level battery safety hazards to the user, service, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Understand the failure analysis and top level effects of failure of the product in order to design the correct strategy for protection of the system against failures.
  • Work together with cross-functional teams cascading sub-system requirements to SW/HW/component requirements, as well as validation specification development.
  • Collaborate with system integration and validation engineers on validation planning; support validation execution and result review; support trouble shooting to determine solutions to observed issues
  • Adapt and work within dynamic development timelines of multiple programs, with accelerated hardware production timelines, and software release cadence
