Position: Accountant (Level 1 or 2)

Supervisor: Chief Executive Officer

Location: GLAD Headquarters, Los Angeles

Classification: Exempt, 100% FTE

 

Depending on experience and qualifications, there are two possible levels for this position with different responsibilities and salaries.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Accountant will:

 

Level One (1):


  1. Prepare monthly invoices for grantors and other customers

  2. Prepare contract and budget amendments

  3. Prepare projections for the CEO

  4. Oversee accounts receivable aging

  5. Prepare expenditure reports for tracking and invoicing purposes

  6. Prepare general ledger entries and make necessary adjustments

  7. Record revenues for grants

  8. Update payroll postings monthly

  9. Prepare and post general allocations monthly

  10. Prepare fund balance listing annually

  11. Oversee GLAD Accounting Department and work closely with the CEO on operation of Accounting department

  12. Jointly oversee the Accounting Specialist along with the CEO and backup the Accounting Specialist’s duties as needed

  13. Manage external audit when needed

  14. Other duties as assigned

Level Two (2):

All duties and responsibilities of level 1 with the addition of:


  1. Examine, prepare and analyze financial records

  2. Ensure proper tax filing and tax compliance

  3. Provide strategic advice on financial health

  4. Manage company financial auditing and risk management

Qualifications:

Level One (1):


  1. A Bacehlor's degree in Accounting and at least 3 years related experience and/or training in Accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  2. Fluency in American Sign Language is required.

  3. Experience with software such as excel and QuickBooks online

  4. Knowledge of financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, cost accounting, and auditing according to the nature of assignment, and computerized financial reporting methods and systems.

  5. Ability to develop, analyze and interpret financial reports and statements.

  6. Excellent interpretation, analysis and evaluation techniques of financial information.

  7. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with deadlines.

  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  9. Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining cooperative relationship with co-employees, directors, and the CEO.

  10. Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to perform professionally. Punctuality and reliability are a must.

  11. Must have reliable transportation and maintain up-to-date auto insurance.

Level Two (2):

All qualifications of Level 1 with addition of:


  1. CPA License

  2. Experience with tax filing and paperwork

 

Salary:

Level One (1): $80,000 - $87,000 per year

Level Two (2): $100,000 - $115,000 per year

About GLAD:

The Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness is a private non-profit organization that was founded in 1969 and now has 13 locations serving 10 counties in Southern California. 

Our goal is to protect the civil rights, and ensure equal access for the deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled communities in particular areas of California, including the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, Riverside, Mono, Inyo and San Luis Obispo, to all of life’s opportunities.

GLAD’s general purpose and powers shall be to promote the educational, health, housing, vocational, cultural, social and recreational welfare of its deaf and hard of hearing constituents.

The organization’s specific and primary purposes shall be to act as a coordinating agency addressing the broad social service needs of deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled individuals through direct service provision, advocacy, research and dissemination of information to the consumers, professionals and parents.

Salary Range: Dependent on Qualifications - Level 1 $80,000-$87,000 yearly OR Level 2 $100,000- $115,000 yearly
