Job Description and Duties

State Water Project Aerial Tour 2021 -

This position is currently located at the California Natural Resources Building in Downtown Sacramento.

Duties: Under the general direction of the Manager, Civil Maintenance Branch, the incumbent has immediate responsibility to supervise and direct the activities of the Turnouts and Special Projects Section of the Project Management Office, Division of Operations and Maintenance (O&M). The primary function includes overseeing the administration and negotiation of agreements for the operations, maintenance, and construction of new and modified turnouts and turn-ins, review and coordination of all submittal, applications and agreements for new or modified turnouts and turn-ins within the State Water Project (SWP) and supervise the staff. The secondary functions include leading special engineering and technical projects related to the operation of SWP and supporting management and field divisions.

It is essential that the incumbent work cooperatively with others; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; maintain regular, consistent, and predictable attendance; exercise good judgment; and apply broad knowledge in hydraulics, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of major water project facilities.

Special Requirements

Must be available for calls outside normal business hours. Must be able to respond to emergency situations with rapid and appropriate response. Must be able and willing to work alone and in adverse weather conditions; e.g., extreme heat or cold, entering and exiting confined spaces such as vaults and structures for equipment access.

Must be willing to work sometimes outside of normal business hours, travel, and stay overnight in various locations throughout the State of California. This will require traveling throughout the State by air or vehicle. Employee is required to successfully complete all safety training related to the functions of the job.
