Complex Commercial Litigation Paralegal
Complex Commercial Litigation Paralegal Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Complex Commercial Litigation Paralegal to support a busy litigation practice focused on high-stakes commercial disputes. The paralegal will assist litigation attorneys in all phases of state and federal court matters, from case intake and discovery through trial and post-trial proceedings. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple matters under tight deadlines in both state and federal court environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage case files and maintain organized matter-level document repositories, including pleadings, correspondence, discovery, motion practice, and exhibits.
- Draft and prepare routine and complex litigation documents such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, discovery requests and responses, and court forms under attorney supervision.
- Coordinate, execute, and manage all aspects of discovery, including e-discovery workflows, document collection, review, privilege logs, and production in Relativity, Concordance, or similar platforms.
- Calendar, track, and ensure compliance with court deadlines and rules for state and federal courts, including filing, service, and hearing scheduling.
- Support trial and hearing preparation: prepare witness binders, trial exhibits, demonstratives, deposition summaries, and logistics for in-court presentations.
- Assist with depositions and witness preparation, including scheduling, subpoena issuance, exhibit preparation, and preparation of deposition summaries and designations.
- Conduct factual and legal research at the paralegal level, compile research memos, and gather supporting documents and authorities for attorneys.
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, experts, and vendors to coordinate deadlines, meet-and-confers, and case needs while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Prepare and manage billing and time entries, track case budgets and expenses, and coordinate vendor invoices for discovery vendors, court reporters, and trial services.
- Maintain and improve litigation workflows and templates, and train junior paralegals and legal assistants as needed.
Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate, associate degree in paralegal studies, or equivalent paralegal training required; bachelors degree preferred.
- 5+ years of paralegal experience, with demonstrated experience in litigation matters; prior work on commercial/business litigation matters strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with state and federal court procedures, filing systems (CM/ECF), and civil litigation rules and deadlines.
- Experience with e-discovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, Concordance, Logikcull) and familiarity with managing large document productions and privilege review.
- Strong drafting, proofreading, and document-preparation skills; ability to produce polished pleadings, briefs, and discovery responses.
- Proficiency with legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and manage competing deadlines across multiple matters.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, expert witnesses, and court personnel.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment; willingness to travel for depositions and trials as needed.
- Nice-to-have: direct experience in commercial litigation, business litigation, state court practice, and federal court practice; professional paralegal certifications (NALA, NFPA, PACE) are a plus.
