Job Description and Duties
Metropolitan State Hospital is located in Norwalk, Los Angeles County.
The Department of State Hospitals – Metropolitan, Trust Office, is accepting applications for the Office Technician (Typing), Permanent/Full Time position.
Under the direction of the Supervisor I or designee, the Office Technician (Typing) position will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day gathering, processing, storing, and mailing of all patient property. This includes transporting property from Admissions unit, boxing and storing property, forwarding property to patients who have been discharged, processing requests from current patients to access stored property and mail property, and auditing patient property on the units. The incumbent will have contact with hospital police, social workers, and staff within the hospital. Major functions include, but are not limited to: answering phone calls, sorting and distributing mail, assisting employees, patients, patients’ families and outside agencies with questions regarding patients’ property and assisting in any area where additional assistance is required.
Interested candidates with computer skills, excellent attendance, and punctuality are highly desired.
Special Requirement : Ability to type at a speed of not less than 40 words per minute from ordinary manuscript or printed or typewritten material.

You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. - The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.

Typing Certificate - Typing certification must be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person. State departments will honor typing certificates issued within the last four years, and certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements , with a minimum of 40 WPM (words per minute).
