Direct Counsel is representing an Am Law 50 firm seeking a Labor & Employment Counsel for its Los Angeles or San Francisco office. The ideal candidate will have nine to twelve years of relevant labor and employment law experience.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) required.

• Must be licensed to practice law in the State of California.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Experience defending single-plaintiff litigation matters, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour disputes, and reasonable accommodation claims.

• Experience handling PAGA matters and class actions .

• Ability to manage cases independently from start to finish.

• Strong research, writing skills, and academic record.

• Experience drafting and responding to initial pleadings and discovery .

• Experience drafting and arguing dispositive and discovery motions .

• Experience taking and defending depositions , including plaintiffs' depositions and corporate witness depositions.

• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations , with experience in employment counseling.

• A portable book of business is preferred but not required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• This role operates in a professional office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, and copiers.

• Physical Requirements: Sedentary work requiring occasional lifting or moving of objects up to 10 pounds. The role involves prolonged sitting with occasional walking and standing.

• Visual Acuity: Requires close visual acuity for tasks such as analyzing data, transcribing, reading extensively, and working with a computer.

Compensation & Benefits:

• The salary range for this position is $270,000 - $290,000 , depending on experience, education, licensure, location, and market conditions.

• Compensation will be determined based on individual qualifications, and it is not typical for hires to start at the top of the range.
