Job Description and Duties

If so, the Department of Industrial Relations’ (DIR) Safety and Security team is looking for you! As a DIR Safety and Security Supervisor, you will help lead and facilitate the Department's Emergency Preparedness and Security efforts for over 3000 employees across 40+ office locations statewide.

The Safety and Security Unit is responsible for the safety of all buildings, working with local staff, management, property managers and partners in law enforcement, the Office of Emergency Services, CalFire, and other local agencies. In collaboration with other members of the Safety and Security Unit, this role is responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness drills, exercises, evacuations, and developing, implementing, and monitoring office emergency preparedness policies and security procedures. In this role, the incumbent will coordinate with DIR and building staff in the event of an emergency or natural disaster by working with internal and external subject matter experts to maximize the safety and security of people and property.

The Safety and Security Unit independently manages the development and annual submission of the Department’s Business Continuity Plan, Business Impact Analysis, and Business Continuity Checklist to the California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES). They also lead the development, training, and testing of the roles and responsibilities of the Business Continuity Plan.

Under the general direction of the Supervisor II, the Safety and Security Supervisor I is responsible for daily oversight and management of the Safety and Security Unit. The incumbent provides oversight and direction to subordinate staff, coordinates, plans, organizes, and oversees functions including, but not limited to: personnel management, health/safety, security, emergency preparedness, building access systems, and managing related procurement efforts for the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). This position offers opportunities for a hybrid telework schedule.

Working Conditions

This position is located at: 1416 9th Street; Sacramento, CA 95814.

  • The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting. Air-conditioned, High-rise building with elevator access. Cubicle with natural and artificial lighting.
  • We offer a hybrid work schedule in accordance to DIR’s telework policy.
  • The incumbent must be able to remain in a stationary position for a prolonged period of time using a computer and telephone and interact ion with coworkers and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to work with a variety of audiences and communication styles.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
