Grocery Department Specialist

POSITION PURPOSE:

To complete a variety of specialized duties that supports the Sales and Assistant Sales Managers in assigned Departments. The duties in the department specialist job family focus on tasks and/work that are unique to the department and require knowledge and skills that are beyond what are required for general office work. Primary responsibility is the accurate implementation of item prices with the merchandising and related systems.

The salary range is $25.38 - $32.97 hourly. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Reviews information and data and makes decisions within very defined guidelines, parameters and instruction.
• Checks own work for accuracy - requires a high level of accuracy as errors impact sales and profits.
• Creates and maintains complex records and files and search and investigate information found in files.
• Posts records and processes departmental documents requiring specific knowledge of functional area.
• Collects data/information for dept. use in special projects or reports.
• Responds to inquiries in area of responsibility from stores, merchandising staff and vendor partners.
• Answers dept. phones as needed and routes to appropriate area.
• Examines and prioritizes documents to determine work to be completed or best course of action.
• Sorts, files and maintains invoices, receipts, contracts, or other special department documents.
Performs other related duties as assigned which may include duties specific to assigned department (e.g. - scales in Service Deli).

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Education Level:

• High School graduate with Associate's degree or higher desirable

Experience Level:

• Knowledge of Albertsons and/or Vons/Safeway merchandising, point of sale or marketing systems is desired
Familiarity with retail pricing systems is desirable.

Skills and Experiences:

• Reading, writing, math and written and verbal communication skills at a proficient level
• Excellent keyboarding skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Math skills at a specific level (i.e. one step: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or two step percent calculations or more advanced). Knowledge of retail math (gross margin, retail pricing, cost, mark-down, etc.) desired.
• Prior experience on mainframe systems desired.
Extremely detail oriented, ability to organize, and strong analytical skills.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

• Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
• Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
• Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
