BEHAVIORAL MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST

Qualifications

  • California special education teaching or related services credential
  • Behavior Intervention Case Manager (BICM) certificate or equivalent training
  • Certified Behavior Analyst certificate (or certificate in progress) desirable
  • Master's degree in behavior analysis, psychology, education or related field desirable
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, students and public and to respect confidential matters
  • Experience working with special education or students with other special needs
  • Driver's license and personal automobile for use on district business

REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned

SUPERVISES: Staff as assigned

JOB GOAL: To provide leadership in creating suitable educational environment for students with challenging educational and behavioral needs

Performance Responsibilities

  • Promotes positive social and emotional environment conducive to teaching and learning by providing behavioral consultation, training and support
  • Assists in assessment of student and classroom needs, development of individualized curriculum and programs, and implementation of effective teaching strategies
  • Completes appropriate functional assessments in timely manner; writes clear, concise positive behavior intervention plans and progress reports using data to support rationales; present reports in interdisciplinary and IEP team meetings within proscribed timelines
  • Consults with psychologists, administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, parents/guardians, related service providers and appropriate others to provide support for implementing programs for challenging students on student-by-student basis; mediates conflicting opinions in supportive, positive, respectful manner
  • Designs and implements teaching strategies, classroom systems, and individual student programs utilizing "best practices" defined by applied behavior analysis and data-guided instruction
  • Adapts age-appropriate curriculum to behavioral interventions and trains others to meet students' educational and behavioral needs
  • Develops and provides training for administrative and teaching staff, paraprofessionals and parents/guardians in areas of applied behavior analysis; principles of behavioral intervention, modification, and other behavior management systems; behavioral assessments, techniques, and intervention plans; crisis management techniques; counseling intervention techniques; discrete trial methodology; and management of assaultive behaviors
  • Attends job-related meetings and serves on district-level committees as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

SALARY: $130,437 - $159,039 annually (199 days)

(Max. salary includes longevity & educational stipends)

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's "Improvement of Professional Services" handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.

Conditions Of Employment

Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
