responsibilities:

• Architect the Future: Design and scale our core policy lifecycle APIs, enabling the platform to flawlessly handle tens of thousands of complex transactions daily.
• Build the Engine: Develop robust orchestration middleware that drives the entire insurance policy lifecycle, encompassing quoting, issuing, endorsing, canceling, and renewing.
• Craft the Frontend: Build full-stack product surfaces using modern React functional patterns to create intuitive consumer-facing portals and agent self-serve tools.
• Automate at Scale: Create and optimize transactional workflows and batch pipelines to automate complex clerical tasks, from lender notifications to scheduling automated inspections.
• Collaborate and Integrate: Work closely with cross-functional teams and leadership to integrate our core platform with global underwriting teams and specialty insurance carriers.
• Shape the Culture: Serve as a foundational engineering hire, bridging the gap between rigorous technical discipline and the rapid pace of a scaling startup.

qualifications:
Must-Haves

Minimum of 3 years of professional software engineering experience (ideally 4 to 7+ years).

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.

Strong backend engineering fundamentals with a willingness to fill frontend gaps (a 60-70% backend and 30-40% frontend split is highly welcomed).

At least 3 years of experience building rich frontend features using modern React (utilizing functional patterns, the Context API, and basic state management; heavy state management like Redux or Zustand is not required).

Proficiency in at least one functional programming language (e.g., Scala, Rust, TypeScript, Kotlin, Erlang, Haskell, Elixir, Clojure, Elm, OCaml, or Dylan). Note: JavaScript and TypeScript must be written in functional patterns.

Proven experience designing and shipping product features end-to-end.

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, or working remotely within the Pacific Time Zone (PDT) with the ability to travel to San Francisco occasionally.

Nice-to-Haves

Prior experience in the FinTech or InsurTech industries.

A strong interest in the intersection of climate risk and financial services.
