Under the administrative direction of the Administrative Services Division Chief, The Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate (TRA) is the external face of the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) for all taxpayer related issues. The incumbent directs all activities relating to the Advocate Program, including identifying and resolving the most significant and sensitive issues affecting taxpayers. The incumbent’s primary job function is to ensure that the FTB protects the rights of taxpayers throughout the administration. One of the foundational principals which supports FTB’s mission and guides our work, is to ensure that our business is conducted in accordance with the Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires 4 or more days in the office per week. It is designated office-centered and may be eligible for some remote work based on departmental guidelines and operational need.

    The Statement of Qualification is a narrative discussion of how the candidate's education, training, experience, and skills meet the minimum and desirable qualifications to qualify them for the position. The Statement of Qualifications serves as a documentation of each candidate's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing and should:

    • Be typed using Arial Regular 12-point font.
    • 1-inch margins.
    • Be no more than three pages in length.
    • Specifically answer each item separately and number them on the Statement of Qualifications in the same order as the Desirable Qualifications.

    Applicants who fail to submit the Statement of Qualifications will be eliminated from the examination process. Cover letters and resumes do not take the place of SOQs. Applicants who do not follow these requirements may be disqualified from the examination.
