Job Description


AECOM's
Environmental Planning and Permitting team is growing in California and seeking an Environmental Planner II to join our team. This hybrid position will be based out of our San Diego office.

The successful candidate would join our team to engage with our expanding pool of public and private sector clients to complete environmental compliance processes and documentation.

Responsibilities would include supporting CEQA/NEPA documentation, technical studies, and permitting for energy, transportation, water, coastal restoration, and development-related projects. Other responsibilities may include participation in business development activities, development of schedules, and task management. Work will include collaboration with senior project managers and task leaders; client staff; and representatives from cities, counties, and local, regional, state, and federal agencies

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support environmental planning and compliance work, including the development of environmental documents and studies in compliance with CEQA, NEPA, and other state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Analyze and describe environmental impacts of project activities for environmental documents that support CEQA and/or NEPA review and permitting.
  • Support preparation of regulatory permit applications and/or approvals with federal, state, and local resource agencies.
  • Coordinate with permitting and resource agencies during application review and approval process.
  • Assist with permit strategy development and tracking of agency approvals and conditions.
  • Coordinate project tasks among technical staff, subcontractors and clients.
  • Financial and schedule management and reporting on ongoing tasks and projects.
  • Assist with quality reviews of colleague and subconsultant deliverables.
  • Support the development of work scopes, staffing and cost estimates for tasks under existing and new contracts.
  • May engage in business development activities and pursuits, with direction from project manager.

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental planning, or related field.
  • 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education focusing on environmental planning (CEQA/NEPA) and compliance.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's license is required.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant experience focusing on environmental planning.
  • Ability to work independently around technical report writing related to CEQA/NEPA compliance as well as other types of technical reports and regulatory (federal, state, local) permitting documents.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to effectively interact with teams of staff, subconsultants, and clients.
  • Excellent organization skills as well as ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Experienced in environmental studies, CEQA/NEPA documentation, regulatory compliance and permitting, and agency consultations for energy projects.
  • Previous experience assisting in business development efforts.
