As the Safety Assurance Specialist supporting Test Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of quality and safety controls outlined in the Rondo Integrated Management System at the Alameda site. This position reports directly to the QHSE team, with a dotted-line relationship to the Materials Testing/Engineering Manager. Success in this role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams—including Engineering and Business Operations—as well as active communication with contractors and vendors to maintain a best-in-class safety and testing record.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to):

• Compliance Assurance : Ensuring compliance with OSHA-California requirements.


• Safety Coaching : Support Alameda R&D and testing activities through daily coaching and driving initiatives to improve team safety and security.


• Risk Assessment : Identifying potential hazards at the Alameda site and implementing measures to mitigate risks. This is done in conjunction with Delivery and Engineering teams.


• Incident Investigation : When a near miss or incident occurs, participate in investigating the incidents, conduct an assessment of causes and implement corrective actions.


• Training and Awareness: Lead company-built safety and/or quality-related training to the facility work teams promoting behavior-based safety principles and prevention of safety issues.


• Emergency Response Leadership : Follow and execute the emergency response plans for potential incidents at the Alameda site including continual testing and drills.


• Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining records of safety inspections, incident reports, equipment inspections, and training records as compliance documentation.


• Coordination with Contractors : Working with subcontractors and other contractors to ensure they adhere to safety and quality standards prior to starting work at the facility.

What You Will Bring:

• Previous work experience in a safety role, preferably in an R&D/Testing or manufacturing environment.


• Ability/commitment to learning Rondo HSE and Quality procedures within 3 months of accepting role.


• Ability to support implementing safety and security processes (from identification to action close-out).


• Ability/willingness to coach team members in Alameda on safe work practices and procedures.


• Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. 

Requirements:

• Direct working knowledge of CA OSHA requirements


• BS level degree in a Science or Engineering discipline, or equivalent experience


• 3-5 years prior experience in an R&D or Testing Safety role in an automotive, chemical engineering, or materials development organization


• Proven track record of collaboration with Technical teams

This role necessitates being on-site at our Alameda HQ 5 days per week and carries some responsibility with occasional on-call projects. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $120,000 to $140,000plus equity in an early-stage, rapidly scaling global company. Additionally, you would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above.
