Please note: this position is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 1500 hours in a rolling year. The salary range for Scientific Aid is $18.26 - $21.67 per hour.

We are looking for a motivated candidate to fill a Scientific Aid position responsible for assisting staff in providing regulatory oversight of challenging cannabis cultivation activities in the Cannabis Regulation and Enforcement Unit.

The position is located at 364 Knollcrest Dr., Ste. 205, Redding, CA 96002.

Duties include assisting with database management, permitting, report review, water quality site inspections, and field sampling. Please review the attached Duty Statement.

Working Conditions

Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position and might be expected to comply with after July 1, 2026.

In accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and GC 14200, the successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Proof of residency may be required.

Salary Information - CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience. Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Excellent verbal and technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with water quality concepts, tools, and principles, and the analysis of water quality data.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with reviewing and/or developing technical scientific reports/technical documents.
  • Proficiency in personal computer and software applications including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point), GPS, geographic information systems (GIS) mapping tools, and Google Earth.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with entering water quality information into databases and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with other staff and the public in the course of work.
  • Thoroughness and follow-through in completing assigned tasks.
  • Customer service experience.

This is a non-testing classification, therefore anyone meeting the minimum qualifications listed on the classification specification may apply for this position.

Applicants on public assistance under the CalWorks/Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) will be given priority. A letter from the County Welfare department verifying CalWorks/TANF status MUST be submitted with your application.
