Job Summary

A growing automotive repair facility in Fountain Valley, CA is seeking an experienced Diagnostic Technician - Automotive for a direct hire opportunity. This role is ideal for a highly skilled Automotive Diagnostic Technician or Master Technician who can independently diagnose complex vehicle issues and complete advanced mechanical repairs with accuracy, efficiency, and pride in workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform advanced diagnostics on domestic, import, hybrid, and electric vehicles, including electrical, drivability, CAN Bus, and high-voltage system concerns.
- Complete complex mechanical repairs such as engine repair and replacement, head gasket service, timing chain and belt service, transmission replacement, drivetrain repairs, suspension, steering, and brake repairs.
- Diagnose and repair hybrid and EV systems, including HV battery removal and replacement, inverter and DC-DC converter diagnosis, and hybrid cooling system service.
- Use OEM-level scan tools, lab scopes, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and digital service information to identify root causes accurately.
- Inspect vehicles thoroughly, identify additional repair or maintenance needs, and document diagnostic findings and repair recommendations clearly.
- Collaborate with service advisors on repair needs, completion timelines, and quality expectations while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.

- Compensation: $35 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Perform advanced automotive diagnostics on electrical, drivability, mechanical, hybrid, and EV systems.
- Complete major mechanical repairs, including engine, transmission, drivetrain, suspension, steering, and braking systems.
- Use scan tools, lab scopes, wiring diagrams, and OEM service information to diagnose complex vehicle concerns.
- Document findings accurately and communicate repair recommendations effectively with the service team.

- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as an Automotive Technician, Diagnostic Technician, or Master Technician.
- Strong experience with advanced diagnostics and complex mechanical repair, not limited to basic parts replacement.
- Advanced knowledge of engine performance, drivability, electrical troubleshooting, voltage drops, shorts, opens, and CAN Bus communication systems.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, steering, and brake systems.
- Working knowledge of OEM repair procedures, service information, and preventative maintenance standards.
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot systematically, and produce high-quality, comeback-free repairs.
- Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, organization, and professionalism in a shop environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with hybrid and electric vehicle systems is highly preferred.
- Previous dealership or high-level independent repair shop experience is a plus.
- Experience with high-voltage battery replacement, inverter diagnosis, DC-DC converter replacement, and hybrid cooling system repairs is preferred.
- Master Technician level skill set or equivalent advanced diagnostic background is preferred.
