OPPORTUNITY

This is a unique leadership opportunity for an experienced, trauma-informed, mission-driven school leader to serve in a dual capacity as both Executive Director and Principal of Children’s Community Charter School. In this role, the selected leader will divide their time and responsibilities across two distinct but closely connected functions. As Executive Director, the leader will serve as the school’s chief executive, reporting directly to the Governing Board and acting as Secretary to the Governing Board, overseeing charter operations, compliance, fiscal management, personnel systems, and overall organizational effectiveness. As Principal, the leader will provide instructional leadership and oversee the day-to-day school site operations, including curriculum implementation, staff supervision and evaluation, student safety and discipline, school culture, and family and community engagement. Together, these responsibilities position the Executive Director/Principal as the central leader ensuring CCCS’s academic excellence, operational strength, and whole-child mission are advanced with integrity and care.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Director Responsibilities:

Mission & Vision Leadership

  • Articulates and models a deep commitment to CCCS’s mission, vision and values in all aspects of school culture and leadership.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for the TK–8 school program in alignment with CCCS’s whole-child approach.

Organizational Leadership, Operations & Finance

  • Oversees implementation of the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).
  • Oversees and administers the use of school facilities, property, and funds with efficiency and an overriding focus on student learning and outcomes.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and county requirements and maintains up-to-date knowledge of operational best practices.
  • Manage teacher union negotiations and contract development that supports the school’s mission, values, and long-term organizational health.
  • Oversees enrollment planning and financial forecasting through landscape analysis and trend monitoring to support long-term sustainability.
  • Develops plans and organizational procedures for health, safety, discipline, and conduct of students in conformity with district policies and the CA Education Code.

Board Partnership

  • Establishes regular channels of student-staff-principal-community and Board communications.
  • Executes Board-approved policies, implements Board decisions, and supports effective Board operations and decision-making.

Principal Responsibilities:

People Leadership, Talent Development & Team Effectiveness

  • Recruits and hires qualified instructional and support staff.
  • Inspires, leads, and supports staff in setting and achieving high standards of academic excellence.
  • Conducts comprehensive and accurate evaluations of certificated and classified staff.
  • Ensures staff understand and implement school policies, curriculum expectations, and safety procedures.
  • Builds positive staff morale, supports professional growth, and recognizes outstanding performance.

Academic & Instructional Leadership

  • Ensures strong curriculum implementation and maintains up-to-date knowledge of TK–8 standards and instructional expectations.
  • Provides instructional leadership through curriculum planning, review, implementation, and aligned professional development.
  • Oversees instructional programming, special programs, extracurricular activities, and key school-site operations that support student learning.
  • Establishes and maintains systems that promote a safe, effective learning environment and a positive school climate.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of instructional plans and schoolwide priorities aligned to student needs, including the LCAP.

Community Engagement & External Relations

  • Promotes strong family and community engagement and actively supports PIC involvement.
  • Maintains positive relationships with families, parent groups, volunteers, and partner organizations.
  • Keeps the School Board and school community informed about key events, initiatives, and issues.
  • Represents CCCS in regional, state, and professional groups and committees.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of leadership experience in a charter school or network context, with increasing responsibility.
  • Experience working with a diverse student and parent population that has experienced trauma and has a proven track record of building support structures in these environments.
  • A track record of maintaining student academic outcomes.
  • An ability to anticipate and analyze major issues; present possible alternatives and clear recommendations to the Board based on sound educational and fiscal considerations.
  • Experience, which would indicate an ability to organize and inspire others; to delegate and motivate; to involve affected personnel in the decision-making process.
  • Has the ability to foster good interpersonal relationships among members of the staff and between the Governing Board and the community.
  • Can utilize appropriate management and leadership skills, including goal setting and negotiations techniques and is well organized.
  • Has a knowledge of school finances, securing of grants, financial resources, special education and facilities management.
  • Has a good knowledge of TK-8 grade curriculum and working knowledge of the California State Standards and testing procedures.
  • Able to work closely and cooperatively with the Governing Board.
  • The selected candidate is required to live within 40 miles of the school location.

Experience & Education

  • California Teaching Credential Administrative Credential, Master’s Degree (preferred but not required).
  • Previous TK-8 Principal experience.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Pass TB test.

Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary range of $147,000 - $174,000, a potential bonus opportunity and relocation, and robust benefits including medical, dental, and retirement. More details can be provided upon request.
