Part-time SPED Interpreter/Translator

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the manager, the Interpreter will provide translation from English to Spanish and vice-a-versa for various meetings, events, and documents. In recognition of the need for meaningful participation for non- or limited-English-speaking parent(s)/guardian(s) at IEP team meetings, the Special Education Interpreter will provide oral interpretation at IEP team meetings to ensure a high level of service and a clear line of communication between all parties. In addition, Special Education Interpreter will support with written translation of IEP documents into their primary language for parent review. The overall goal is to ensure that parents/guardians have access to timely and accurate translation services. There is a mandatory certification training for any teammate in this role. The training will be provided by Aspire at no expense to the teammate; however, the teammate must make themselves available for the training.Note that this is a part-time position with hours on an as-needed basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Attend meetings, parent conferences and school events for providing oral translation from English to Spanish and vice versa, items such as IEP meetings.
- Translate written documents verbatim from English to Spanish; documents may include Individualized Education Plan (IEPs), Behavior plans, Parent letters, Informational mailings, presentations, or other documents.
- Represent Aspire in a way that is consistent with Aspire’s mission and values when responding to inquiries from parents and the public.
- Participate in trainings, conferences or workshops to maintain skills and build professional growth

- Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, the Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements including antiracism, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior
- Actively seeks to improve and simplify Aspire’s approach to particular job functions
- Comfortable with utilization of technology in a remote environment
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Competencies:
- Qualifying experience in the designated language or Bachelor’s degree in the designated language. School or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency is required if experience is being substituted for the degree.
- Proven ability to provide timely and meaningful financial analysis in a dynamic, high-growth work environment
- Excellent written and verbal ability in both English and Spanish
- Ability to listen to English and speak in Spanish
- Ability to work without technical supervision and take responsibility for the accuracy of the translations that are done
- Ability to speak in public meetings representing Special Education
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft program applications and translation software or equipment Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and/or student records
- Work effectively with District personnel and the public
- Knowledge of Special Education terminology, IEP documents and IDEA procedures
- Minimum educational level:
- Qualifying experience in the designated language or Bachelor’s degree in the designated language. School or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency is required if experience is being substituted for the degree.
- Experience required:
- Two or more years preferred working with students with special needs and their families
- Two or more years of experience composing, editing, and translating materials from English to Spanish
- Two years’ experience providing immediate oral interpretations during group meetings and in one-to-one situations, preferably in an educational setting
- Valid California Driver’s License

Our salary range, based on years of experience for this position type is: $30-$44
- Physical requirements:
- Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height
- Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)
- Demonstrate normal depth perception
- Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
- See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aides
- Work authorization requirements:
- Clear the Department of Justice background screening
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Provide health (TB) clearance (most update every four years)
