Product Manager, Square Credit Card
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale. Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same. The Role
We’re building a premium business credit card designed exclusively for Square businesses owners. We are designing the system sellers rely on to manage spend, control cash flow, and run their business day-to-day.
As Product Manager, you will own the core of this credit card product: the intersection of expense management, cardholder value, and card economics.
You’ll define how businesses track and control spending, how they earn and redeem rewards, and how the financial mechanics of the card (interchange, float, pricing, and incentives) work together to create a durable, market-leading product.
This role sits at the center of experience, systems, and economics. You’ll operate like a founder: setting vision, shaping the financial model, and leading a cross-functional team to deliver a premium card that our sellers love and that scales profitably.
If you’re excited about reinventing what a business credit card can be — and owning both the customer experience and the P&L behind it — this is the role.
You Will
- Own the expense and spend management product area for Square Credit Card. Set the multi-year vision and roadmap for the card’s spend, rewards, and economic systems with ambitions to build a category defining credit card for small business owners
- Set key objectives for your product area (expense management adoption, integration usage, categorization accuracy, customer satisfaction, etc.)
- Define the product strategy and roadmap for expense and spend management features, including: automated expense categorization, receipt capture and matching, spend controls and limits, vendor management, accounting software integrations (QuickBooks, Xero, etc.), reporting and analytics, and intelligent spending insights
- Ship innovative features that unlock expense management use cases - think real-time categorization, OCR receipt scanning, automated GL coding, budget alerts, multi-user spend controls, and AI-powered spending recommendations
- Collaborate closely with other Credit Card PMs (underwriting, rewards, card management) to ensure seamless product experiences and shared infrastructure. Partner with Square Banking, Invoices, and Payroll teams to build integrated financial workflows
- Deeply understand product performance by analyzing adoption funnels, feature usage, integration health, and customer feedback. Self-serve insights from data to drive rapid iteration
- Understand and optimize the unit economics of your features, including development costs, third-party integration costs, and the value they drive in customer retention and spend volume
- Partner with engineering, design, data science, risk, compliance, legal, and third-party integration partners to build and scale your product area
- Talk to customers regularly to understand their expense management workflows, pain points, and needs—ensuring we build features that truly solve small business problems
- Operate with end-to-end ownership — from concept through launch through ongoing performance
You Have
- At least 8+ years of experience in product management, preferably in Credit Card, fintech or payments industries
- Curiosity, empathy and an irresistible urge to go talk to Square’s customers to hear firsthand what they need from us
- Impeccable product intuition combined with high numeracy and a bias to data-driven action so you can quickly make product and prioritization decisions to improve your business
- A demonstrable track record building strategies and executing on a roadmap to grow product adoption and usage
- Standout cross-functional collaboration, especially with design and engineering. You build and maintain trust, generate excitement and buy-in for your strategies, and deliver on your promises
- You can inspire people through your clear written and verbal communication
- An understanding of payments rails, card networks, risk, and fraud is a bonus
