Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Personnel Supervisor II, the Personnel Supervisor I supervises, trains, provides technical assistance, evaluates, and directs the performance of Personnel Specialists in the preparation, processing, and submission of documents related to a variety of personnel transactions, including payroll and benefits.

Working Conditions

The position is located in:
Sacramento, CA

The Personnel Supervisor II works 40 hours per week, generally in an office setting with elevator access and a cubicle with natural and artificial lighting. The incumbent in this position has frequent contact with DIR staff, representatives from other State agencies, and the public in person, by telephone, and/or email. Much of this contact is of a sensitive and confidential nature. Extensive use of a computer is required. Being in a stationary position for long periods of time.

The incumbent should exercise a high degree of initiative, discretion/confidentiality, independence, reliability, dependability, good judgement, and flexibility in performing a wide variety of duties; should be able to effectively communicate and lead others, and establish/maintain professional relationships at all levels; should possess good work habits, work well under pressure, and adjust positively to changing priorities.

The incumbent should possess the ability to: Reason logically and creatively and utilize a variety of techniques to resolve complex issues impacting personnel transactions; develop and evaluate alternatives; evalutate data and present ideas and information effectively, both orally and in writing; consult with and advise managers or other interested parties on a wide variety of subject-matter areas.

The incumbent should possess the following skills: Outstanding customer service skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, good writing skills, and conflict management skills.

The incumbent should possess knowledge of the following: Proper usage and application of grammar and spelling; the ability to apply office policies and procedures; and working knowledge of commonly used office automation/computer programs.

Additional Information
