The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG®) is a Special Research Program at the University of California, Irvine. Founded in 1972 the TLG® represents the first effort to produce a large digital corpus of literary texts. Since its inception the project has collected and digitized nearly texts written in Greek. TLG research activities combine the traditional methodologies of philological and literary study with the most advanced features of information technology.
Responsibilities: The Software Developer supports the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG), a premier digital library of Greek literature and one of the largest collections of digital text in the world. This role is responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of complex applications that enable the search, retrieval, and management of TLG’s digital corpus. The position performs advanced data analysis, data modeling, integration testing, and performance optimization while ensuring the integrity and security of TLG systems and infrastructure.
The incumbent participates in server administration, develops s and maintains security protocols to safeguard digital assets, and supports system implementation and upgrades. Working closely with internal staff, researchers, and technical stakeholders, the role helps define software specifications, implement best practices, and ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing access to TLG resources. The position may serve as a technical lead on projects of moderate scope.
Required:
- Advanced expertise in software design, development, testing, debugging, implementation, and deployment using object-oriented programming concepts; strong proficiency in high-level languages including Java and JavaScript.
- Experience with web and application development technologies including JavaScript, XML, DHTML, web server development, application servers, network communication protocols, and relational databases.
- Working knowledge of secure software development practices, including application and database security, encryption, common vulnerabilities, and awareness of relevant security considerations and legislation.
- Experience with text encoding standards and digital publishing technologies, including XML and Unicode, and understanding of electronic information publishing concepts and search engine functionality. Experience implementing web accessibility standards.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze functional requirements and translate them into technical solutions; develop conversion and system implementation plans; and follow established software specifications.
- Proven skills in test planning and execution, software repository and version control practices, use of programming tools, code libraries, and open-source resources; experience planning deployments and implementing feedback mechanisms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proven capacity to design, write, test, and maintain applications, scripts, and control files while supporting multiple concurrent projects and meeting deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders, interface regularly with management, write clear technical documentation, and contribute technical narratives to grant proposals.
- Highly organized and self-motivated professional who works effectively both independently and as part of a team, demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, tracks ongoing issues and requests, and pursues continuous learning in emerging technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- 3-5 yearsexperience in related field

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$79,200- $$95,250 (Annual).
