Under the direction of the Supervisor I, the Office Technician (OT) (Typing) performs a variety of advanced journey level office and clerical work functions to ensure internal support during steady state time and disaster activation operations within the Recovery Directorate. The incumbent completes tasks related to the provision of federal and state disaster assistance grant programs including, but not limited to: Public Assistance (PA) Disaster Grant, California Disaster Assistance Act (CDAA), Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG), Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness grant (HMEP), Pre-Disaster Mitigation program (PDM), Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA), and other grant programs. Together with general administrative, clerical, and technical assistance tasks, the OT (Typing) duties also include the ability to type at a speed of not less than 40 words per minute from ordinary manuscript or printed or typewritten material.

Working Conditions

This position is located in the Financial Processing Unit in Mather, CA.

Hybrid Telework: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

Typing Certification is required when applicants apply for State civil service clerical positions such as Office Assistant (Typing) and Office Technician (Typing). The specific typing requirement will be noted in the Class Specification.

State departments will honor typing certificates issued within the last four years, and certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements, with a minimum of 40 WPM (words per minute).

Acceptable Certificates must be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person .The California Department of Human Resources will not accept typing certifications from tests that were not proctored or less than 5 minutes long.
