Principal Engineer - Construction Management (Water/Wastewater)

Job description We are seeking an experienced Engineer / Construction Manager to support the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering (BOE) Environmental Engineering Division (EED) in managing wastewater treatment plant projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction management, particularly in the wastewater treatment or related fields. This is a Hybrid Remote Position with a flexible schedule. Responsibilities: Provide specialized construction management services for wastewater capital improvement projects Perform scheduling, estimating, constructability reviews, claims mitigation and resolution, and construction document coordination Work collaboratively with City staff to assist in the delivery of wastewater treatment plant projects Create and manage Project Teams in conjunction with the City's CM staff Monitor job progress and review Contractor's schedule updates Process Contractor's shop drawings, requests for information (RFIs), and clarifications Negotiate change order time extensions with Contractors Organize and maintain construction records using electronic document control systems Process Contractor's progress payments Oversee facility start-up, commissioning, and project close-out Anticipate and develop solutions for potential problems Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including Cal OSHA Qualifications: Minimum of 10 years of construction management experience, preferably in wastewater treatment or related fields Professional Engineering (PE) license Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field Proficiency in Primavera and Microsoft Project scheduling software Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Familiarity with wastewater treatment environments and related construction Ability to read and interpret Contractor's baseline CPM schedules Excellent estimating skills Strong written and oral communication skills Experience with Partnering with Contractors Familiarity working within City organizations and performing construction work in operating facilities Good understanding of safety issues, including Cal OSHA regulations ENV SP certification or willingness to obtain within two months of hiring Preferred Qualifications: Experience with City of Los Angeles projects Project Management Professional (PMP) certification We offer competitive compensation and benefits packages, along with the opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects for the City of Los Angeles.
