Description:
The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Payroll Specialist to join its Accounting and Budget Development Division. This role is responsible for performing specialized payroll processing and system-related functions to ensure accurate and timely compensation for employees across the organization.

In this role, the Payroll Specialist will handle payroll operations using automated systems and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as labor agreements and internal policies. The position requires strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to manage sensitive financial data with accuracy and confidentiality.
Hybrid remote work options may be available depending on operational needs. Key Responsibilities include:
- Processing payroll accurately and in a timely manner using computerized systems
- Maintaining and updating payroll records, deductions, and employee data
- Ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements
- Using payroll and HR systems such as UKG and Red Rover for data management
- Reviewing time reporting, personnel assignments, and payroll adjustments
- Troubleshooting payroll discrepancies and resolving employee inquiries
- Maintaining accurate documentation and supporting audits or reporting needs
- Collaborating with internal departments to ensure payroll accuracy and efficiency
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 year of payroll processing experience
- Experience using automated business or payroll systems
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Understanding of payroll laws, regulations, and reporting procedures
