Plaintiff's Attorney (Asbestos/Mesothelioma) - Emeryville, CA
Location: Emeryville, CA (San Francisco Bay Area)
Position summary: L&W Recruiting, on behalf of a national plaintiff-side law firm, seeks a Plaintiff's Attorney to join its Emeryville team to manage and litigate asbestos/mesothelioma matters. The successful candidate will handle plaintiff-side cases through all phases of litigation, participate in hearings and trials as required, and collaborate with colleagues and experts to advance client-focused outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of asbestos/mesothelioma and related plaintiff personal injury matters from intake through resolution.
- Conduct factual and legal investigation, including review of medical records, employment histories, and exposure evidence.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, settlement documents, and other court filings.
- Take and defend depositions; prepare lay witnesses and expert witnesses for testimony.
- Handle hearings, case management conferences, trial preparation, and courtroom appearances as needed.
- Develop litigation strategy, participate in case planning and settlement negotiations, and coordinate with co-counsel and retained experts.
- Communicate regularly and compassionately with clients, families, medical providers, and other case stakeholders; maintain organized case files and meet calendaring and procedural deadlines.
- Collaborate with colleagues and support staff; mentor and train junior attorneys or staff where appropriate to support firm objectives.
Required qualifications:
- Active license to practice law in California.
- Preferably a minimum of two (2) years of litigation experience; direct experience in asbestos/mesothelioma litigation is preferred but candidates with plaintiff-side experience in personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice, premises liability, or construction defect litigation will be considered.
- Demonstrated litigation skills, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, taking and defending depositions, and courtroom experience.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and professional client-management abilities.
Preferred qualifications:
- Trial experience or significant courtroom exposure in plaintiff-side matters.
- Experience coordinating with medical and industry experts and managing complex medical and exposure evidence.
- Demonstrated commitment to client advocacy and to professional development within a collaborative practice.
