Job Description and Duties

This position will be a member of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's (CDFW) highly collaborative and creative legal office comprised of natural resources, employment, contract, administrative, and water law legal professionals.This Attorney III will be a member of the legal office's team of water attorneys, and will provide critical support to CDFW staff in complex water and aquatic species related proceedings, negotiations, and permitting. This attorney's work will include a broad range of complex environmental and natural resources issues, relating to water policy, water supply, water quality, groundwater and hydropower issues and related legal issues in the Sacramento and San Joaquin River Watersheds and the Delta and interrelated issues statewide. Working Conditions

Maintain normal and consistent work hours, averaging 40 hours per week. Work in excess of 40 hours per week is expected, when necessary, to complete assignments in a timely manner. Position may require the Incumbent to sit for long periods of time. Light lifting or reaching may be required, though reasonable accommodation may be provided upon request.


This position will be located in Sacramento. Some overnight travel may be required.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) California State Bar License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.

This position requires active membership in the California State Bar.
