Band Saw Operator

Wieland is hiring a Band Saw Operator. The Band Saw Operator will be responsible for safely and accurately cutting metal stock to specified dimensions in support of machining, production, and downstream operations. This role operates within the Machine Shop and focuses on material preparation, not foundry or casting activities. This role is located in South Gate, CA and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range: $19.25 per hour to $19.25 per hour

Responsibilities

Band Saw Operator Responsibilities:

• Operate horizontal and vertical band saws to cut metal stock (bars, billets, tubes, plates) to required lengths and tolerances
• Read and interpret work orders, cut lists, blueprints, and material specifications
• Measure, mark, and verify cuts using appropriate measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, micrometers)
• Select appropriate saw blades, speeds, and feeds based on material type and size
• Load and unload material using cranes, forklifts, or hoists as required
• Maintain material identification and traceability throughout the cutting process
• Inspect cut material for accuracy, surface condition, and defects
• Perform routine equipment checks, blade changes, and basic preventive maintenance
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company My Safety standards
• Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout protocols
• Communicate effectively with machinists, supervisors, and material handlers to support production flow
• Strictly follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and work instructions
• Maintain awareness of hot metal hazards and machine shop risks
• Identify and report equipment issues, quality concerns, or unsafe conditions
• Support continuous improvement, housekeeping, and team-based production activities
• Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations

Qualifications

Band Saw Operator Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Prior experience of operating band saws or similar cutting equipment in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
• Ability to read basic blueprints and shop documentation
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to safely handle heavy materials and stand for extended periods
• Basic math skills for measurements and material calculations

Band Saw Operator Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on feet for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to work in a hot, noisy manufacturing environment
• Ability to wear required PPE including face shields, gloves, respirators, and heat-resistant clothing

Band Saw Operator Work Environment:

• Industrial manufacturing and machine shop setting
• Exposure to heat, molten metal, noise, and heavy equipment
• May require overtime, shift work, or weekend work based on production demands
