Girls Flag Football Varsity Head Coach

St. Anthony High School, founded in 1920 in Long Beach, CA, is a Catholic four-year, coeducational, college preparatory high school serving students in the greater Long Beach area. St. Anthony High School offers an amazing athletics program that challenges all our players to achieve their highest potential. In August 2023, we opened our newly renovated 13.5 million dollar Athletic Complex to serve our athletic programs.

The varsity head coach has a special responsibility to ensure that all aspects of their team reflect the school’s Catholic philosophy. The head coach supervises the conduct of assistant coaches and team participants. A teaching position may also be available.

Requirements

Reports directly to the Athletic Director

• Develop and maintain a program culture that promotes healthy competition, spiritual and personal growth, team unity, and an enjoyable experience for all athletes
• Plan and lead seasonal practices, training sessions, and competitions
• Develop and implement strategies for player development and skill progression
• Supervise and mentor student-athletes while promoting sportsmanship and teamwork
• Coordinate with the Athletics Department regarding scheduling, facilities, transportation, and equipment needs
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, and school administration regarding team expectations and activities
• Assist with the growth and development of the program across all levels
• Ensure compliance with CIF, league, and SAHS athletic policies and procedures
• Attend and participate in athletic department meetings and program events as required
• Supervises all assistant coaches regarding professionalism, ethics, and adherence to school, CIF, CAA, and league policies.
• Confers with the athletic director regularly and, on his/her advice, arranges for the details, procedures, and mechanics of his entire varsity system to ensure that a uniform and definite policy exists for the proper functioning of that particular activity.
• Verifies eligibility with the athletic director before allowing a transfer student to participate in a sport.
• Performs any other duties assigned by the athletic director and/or the principal.

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to mentor and develop student-athletes in a positive and disciplined environment
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Athletic Director, coaching staff, and school administration
• Demonstrates initiative, enthusiasm for the sport, and commitment to student development
• Ability to uphold professional guidelines set forth in CIF, the SAHS Employee Handbook, and the Athletics Manual

Education & Experience:

• Extensive knowledge of the sport, including rules and regulations
• Previous coaching and/or competitive playing experience strongly preferred
• Ability to work well with student-athletes, families, and staff

Wage Range

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
