Plant Process Control Supervisor

JOB INFORMATION

Plant Process Control Supervisor positions plan, supervise and participate in the work of subordinate staff responsible for installing, testing, adjusting, repairing, programming, and maintaining complex electrical power systems, electro-mechanical equipment and machinery, and instrumentation and control systems at water and wastewater treatment, filtration and reclamation plants, storm water, water and sewer pump stations; design, modify and make programming and software improvements on computerized electrical system control and data acquisition operations; establish specifications; review plans; analyze problems and make necessary repairs on electrical control systems required to interface with process control computers; train and rate the work performance of employees; and perform other duties as assigned. NOTES:- Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increase: 5% effective 7/1/25
- In addition to the scheduled general wage increases, the following special salary wage increase is also scheduled to take effect for Plant Process Control Supervisor: 5% effective 1/1/26
- Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
- Some positions may require a Confined Space Certificate within six months from date of hire. Employees in these positions will be required to maintain the certification as a condition of employment.
- Must be clean-shaven and able to pass a respirator fit test for confined space entry.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: You must meet ONE of the following options:
- Successful completion of an accredited four-year Electrician Apprenticeship Program AND two years of full-time experience in all phases of work as a journey-level Electrician AND one year of full-time experience diagnosing, repairing, and programming programmable logic controllers at a water or wastewater treatment plant or industrial production plant.
- Successful completion of an accredited four-year Electronics Technician Apprenticeship Program AND two years of full-time experience in all phases of work as a journey-level Electronics Technician AND one year of full-time experience diagnosing, repairing, and programming programmable logic controllers at a water or wastewater treatment plant or industrial production plant.
- Successful completion of an accredited Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology AND four years of full-time experience in all phases of work as a journey-level Electronics Technician AND one year of full-time experience diagnosing, repairing, and programming programmable logic controllers at a water or wastewater treatment plant or industrial production plant.
- Six years of full-time experience in all phases of work as a journey-level Electrician or Electronics Technician AND one year of full-time experience diagnosing, repairing, and programming programmable logic controllers at a water or wastewater treatment plant or industrial production plant.
- City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
- Possession of a valid California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) Grade III Certificate.
- Possession of a valid International Society for Measurement and Control (ISA) Grade II Certificate.
- Possession of a valid State of California Electrician Certificate.
- Possession of a valid Grade T2 or greater Water or Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification.
- Possession of a valid Grade D2 or greater Water Distribution Operator Certification.
- Current Confined Space Certification.
- Proof of apprenticeship completion, if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
- Proof of degree/transcripts, if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
- For City of San Diego employees, proof of Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA), if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
SCREENING PROCESS

Successful candidates will be placed on a list which will be used to fill position vacancies during the next six months (180 days). Fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice for a conviction record report. Certain positions may require additional screening processes, including a polygraph examination and/or background investigation. All screening processes must be successfully completed before employment begins. A positive test result for alcohol, cannabis/marijuana, illegal drugs, or inadequately explained prescription drugs, or misrepresentation, falsification, or omission of pertinent facts in any step of the screening or selection process, may constitute cause for disqualification or termination of employment.
