Community Center Activities Coordinator
REPORTS TO : Community Center Director
SALARY : $17 per hour
POSITION TYPE : Permanent/Full - Time/Non-Exempt (40 hrs/week) Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, designs, develops, coordinates, schedules, promotes and implements activities and sports for children, youth, and teens, preschool-age activities, senior activities, special events and seasonal camps.
- Enforces policy and procedure within the sphere of responsibilities.
- Assist with monthly calendars and the schedule of events and disseminate the information to all community members, Tribal departments, and other applicable participants.
- Coordinate regular team meetings with activities personnel, cook, volunteers and other temporary hires.
- Assist in coordinating ongoing training for employees.
- Coordinate calendar and set up “room bookings” for community events and/or meetings.
- Maintain records of all events & groups using the facility daily, maintain a sign in sheet for all activities verify number of participants, age group, activity held, and facilitator.
- Coordinate annual events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Nuwuvi Days, Indian Days, Halloween, Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Dinner, and Toys for Tots.
- Provide daily oversight of the Community Building to ensure all activities by youth and adults within the building follow the required rules and regulations, inclusive of rules of conduct. Also provides oversight of the Skate Park, Unity Park, Ballfield, and Gymnasium as needed. Reports problems to the Community Center Director.
- Encourage parents and children to participate in fundraisers. Responsible for snack bar and soda inventory and accountability of funds. Provide the Community Center Director with a monthly report of all funds raised.
- Ensure cleanliness of the Community Building, Ball Park, Park, and Gymnasium when recreation holds events there.
- Notify Community Center Director if any maintenance assistance is needed in the Community Center facilities and other areas managed.
- Assist with Toys for Tots and the National Relief Charities Program
- Assist with the Summer Food Program and After School Program
- Assist with preparing purchase orders to the Community Center Director, maintain and submit required receipts to accounting to reconcile expenditures.
- Open and close facilities as needed.
- Assist with CPR, First aid, CDL, and other applicable training with the Community Center Director for staff.
- Assist in preparing monthly/quarterly narrative reports.
- Ability to work varied hours, inclusive of occasional nights and weekends.
- Willingness to serve as a role model for youth.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED. AA Preferred.
- 3 years combined education and experience.
- Experience & skill in use of computers with proficiency in Microsoft programs.
- Prefer experience in supervising, coordinating and organizing activities up to and including how to organize available resources and establishing priorities.
- Ability to work with people especially children (6 to 18 years old) and maintain good public relations.
- Position requires assertiveness in the area of enforcing all rules and regulations, both in the area of gymnasium activities and Community Center Building activities.
- Experience & skill in the area of communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- Valid Driver’s License, must be tribally insurable. Must submit a driving abstract upon hire. Current CDL preferred.
- Due to the requirement of working around children, must be able to pass a criminal background check including fingerprint clearance test for all appropriate agencies.
- Must have (or be able to obtain) a current Food Handler’s Card before employment.
- CPR/First Aid certificate required or obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be physically active.
- Submit to pre-employment drug testing.
- Background check required due to working around community children.
- Comply with Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
- Experience with the Child Food Program requirements and documentation preferred.
- It is preferred that the Activities Director have course work and training in foods, nutrition and/or dietetics. A commitment to secure continuing education related to employment with the Tribe is required.
- Ability to work varied hours inclusive of occasional nights and weekends.
- Ability to attend Council Meetings, when applicable.
