Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with R, SQL, spreadsheets, or similar analytics tools.
  • Experience working with product and engineering teams.
  • Experience acting as a Chief of Staff or on a Chief of Staff team.
  • Experience leading organizational transformation or large-scale change management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

About The Job

Product and Business Strategy Leaders bring together teams across Google’s functions to help products execute optimally. Our team pushes Google to scale at key points that refine our products and infrastructure by executing efficiently, bringing solid business sense and sound judgment, and working effectively across organizational lines.

Our roles often include components of strategy (e.g. analyzing and understanding new trends in the industry, building business plans), operations (e.g. running the cadence of organizations, connecting the operating lines between our functions), and communications. Our team partners with senior leadership to run important functions that cross-cut our existing organizations and deliver high impact projects. We help Engineers, PMs, UX, and all of our other functions to build amazing products that delight our users, and then get those products into their hands.

The Search Intelligence Chief of Staff team’s mandate is to evolve our team to meet the demands of an AI-first future, driving the alignment, velocity, and operational excellence required to reinvent Search. We remove friction, accelerate decision-making, and foster operational excellence, enabling the organization to navigate ambiguity and transform Search for users.

As the Chief of Staff to the VP of Engineering in Search Intelligence, you will act as the architect and multiplier for engineering organization. You will be the VP’s proxy and trusted advisor translating the VP’s goal into reality and ensuring the engineering organization is aligned, resourced, and moving with velocity. You will lead high-stakes organizational transformations and manage complex cross-functional relationships.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $214,000-$302,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Drive the evolution of the technical goal, strategy, and operational excellence for Search Intelligence, in partnership with the Vice President (VP) of Engineering. Support the VP of Engineering and the extended leadership team to ensure that the organization is operating smoothly, resourced effectively, and aligned with the overall Search strategy.
  • Define and lead initiatives that address longer-term needs for Search Intelligence, such as location strategy, workforce planning, and organizational transformation.
  • Set operational rhythms and drive key processes, including engineering leadership forums and offsites.
  • Act as a proxy for the VP of Engineering when needed, using judgment and discretion to unblock decisions with velocity and represent the organization in cross-functional and technical forums.
  • Own critical, undefined problem spaces. Take ambiguous challenges and drive them from concept to execution.
