Associate Researcher, Consumer & Market Insights

Square Enix America
El Segundo, CA

The Associate Researcher, Consumer & Market Insights will play a key supporting role in bringing the voice of the player to life at Square Enix. Reporting to the Associate Manager, you’ll help coordinate research projects from early scoping all the way through report creation—partnering closely with internal teams and external vendors along the way. You’ll dive into surveys, player feedback, competitive insights, and gameplay data to help synthesize what players think, feel, and do across our portfolio.

This is a hands-on, entry-level role where you’ll contribute to research and insights related work while also gaining exposure to market insights and games user research. You'll collaborate with passionate teammates, learn the full research lifecycle, and see how insights directly influence game development, marketing, and strategy.

We’re looking for someone curious, proactive, and excited to grow—someone who loves games, loves learning about players, and wants to make an impact on a small, nimble, and deeply collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, execution, and reporting of research projects across a variety of game titles by helping the team meet key milestones and deadlines.
  • Assist with different steps of the research process, such as helping draft RFPs, contributing to questionnaire development, supporting survey programming and testing, monitoring fieldwork and quotas, and helping ensure accurate data delivery.
  • Help analyze and organize research findings by summarizing key takeaways and contributing to data synthesis with guidance from senior team members.
  • Contribute ideas that help translate brand, marketing, and business questions into actionable research approaches.
  • Support the coordination of internal and external research partners, including helping gather bids, tracking project progress, and learning about new vendors and methodologies.
  • Assist with day‑to‑day project execution, such as recruitment coordination, fieldwork logistics, data gathering, and preparing materials for IP equity reviews and reports.
  • Work closely with the Associate Manager and broader Consumer & Market Insights team to help identify insights by pulling from multiple data sources (primary, secondary, syndicated, industry, social, dashboards, etc.).
  • Help ensure smooth project operations, including supporting partner onboarding steps, documentation needs, risk/privacy checklists, and tracking invoicing workflows.
  • Maintain and update internal research assets, including the research library, data dictionary, and competitive reports.
  • Contribute to additional team tasks as needed to support overall Consumer & Market Insights operations.
  • Performance Measures: Success is based on collaboration, attention to detail, and growth in research skills, with a focus on contributing to stakeholder satisfaction and developing a deeper understanding of consumers and key audiences.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of professional experience in market research, consumer insights, or a related analytical field, or equivalent hands-on exposure through internships, coursework, or part‑time roles (agency experience is preferred).
  • Interest or experience in the gaming or entertainment space and a desire to learn more about the players, industry, and trends.
  • Basic understanding of research methods, such as surveys, concept testing, or data interpretation, with enthusiasm to build deeper skills over time.
  • Ability to stay organized and help support multiple projects, with guidance from more senior team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and comfort explaining findings clearly and simply to different audiences.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and motivation to learn how to turn data into clear, visually appealing reports.
  • Familiarity with (or interest in learning) research tools and platforms such as survey software, data dashboards, SPSS, or Alchemer/Decipher.
  • Curiosity about consumer behavior and a desire to translate data into meaningful insights and recommendations.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and eager to learn, with the ability to manage tasks, ask questions, and seek support when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering accurate, high‑quality work.

Benefits

  • 100% Medical, Dental, Vision coverage- with the option to add a spouse/domestic partner and children at 2% of the premium.
  • Medical FSA (Flexible Spending Account) and Dependent Care FSA (Flexible Spending Account) to help pay for medical expenses, childcare or adult care expenses with pre-tax dollars.

  • Generous leave- from the start you can earn up to 25 days of PTO, we observe 13 major holiday and provide job protected leave for life’s unexpected moments.
  • 401K auto enrollment and employer-match contribution.
  • Be among the first to get copies of every game title, plus receive generous discounts on thousands of games in our library.
