Supervising Rehabilitation Therapist

Job Description and Duties

The Supervising Rehabilitation Therapist will be directed by the Program Director in the Rehabilitation Therapy Services Department at Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Provides supervision and oversight of assigned Rehabilitation Therapists and Interns.

• Assists in the recruitment, selection and assignment of clinical staff, interns and volunteers,

• Monitors adherence to Rehabilitation Therapy Service (RTS) standards and Hospital Administrative Directives, State Licensing, and Joint Commission requirements.

• Ensures that each clinician meets the Hospital's requirements for certification, maintain a current certification or eligibility as a condition of continued employment.

• Participates in the disciplinary process as appropriate.

• Completes performance appraisals of assigned staff.

• Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment program and its components to ensure treatment modalities are in keeping with accepted standards.

• Analyzes/evaluates patient treatment data collected to improve delivery of RT services related to patient needs and works with clinicians to improve current curriculum.

• Meets with RT's regularly to address assessment, treatment and training issues.

• Ensures appropriate protocols, treatment activities and accurate document processes are followed.

• Supervises Rehabilitation Therapists/ Interns on casework and clinical service issues.

• Conducts treatment group observations.

• Applies and demonstrates knowledge of correct methods in Therapeutic Strategies and Interventions (TSI).

• Assist in the maintenance of a safe and secure environment through response to physical assaults, escape attempts or other major patient disturbance, and assist in the management of the conduct of the patients.

• Utilize data to train/ retrain service members as needed in quality performance.

• Provides orientation/ mentoring regarding Rehabilitation Therapy Service duties and responsibilities to new service members to ensure an understanding of expectations.

• Monitors training compliance of Rehabilitation Therapy Service Staff.

Failure to submit the required documents will result in the OOC experience not being applied towards meeting the minimum qualifications of the classification.
