Entry Level Structural Engineer
Your impact
We are looking for a driven and curious Junior Structural Engineer to join our Cities and Places team in San Francisco, CA, working on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients’ challenges locally and worldwide. This is a Hybrid role with an expectation of working in our San Francisco office 2-3 days per week.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team and be involved in a variety of engineering tasks for both private and public sector clients, including design, analysis, and maintenance of various structural systems including buildings, and other infrastructure projects.
In this position you’ll have the chance to work with a multidisciplinary team on projects including the design of new structures as well as existing structural upgrades. With mentorship and guidance from our professional engineers, architects and other senior technical staff, you will grow to become an integral member of the design team, counted on to assist in the performance of structural analysis and design for our projects.
You will perform evaluations of structures with varying degrees of complexity and prepare plans, designs, calculations, and cost estimates under the supervision of experienced engineers. They assist in the design and analysis of structural systems for buildings and other infrastructure projects, utilizing their skills to perform calculations and create structural models using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Additionally, our interns contribute to the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, and reports, ensuring comprehensive documentation of project details and requirements.
To be successful in this position you will need strong communication and interpersonal skills as you work closely with your Structural Lead, Project Managers, Professional Engineers, and Designers across different disciplines. As part of this team, you will perform increasingly complex calculations and analysis as the structural design is developed, and learn to work with our Designers to get the structural requirements communicated on paper and in the model. You will develop a solid foundation in the fundamentals of Structural Engineering, gaining experience in multiple subject areas, and learning how Structural design integrates with and impacts other disciplines. You will also develop understanding of principles of analysis and design of vertical and lateral structural systems in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
You’ll be surrounded by expert mentorship opportunities to help you thrive in your new career. Working together, we’ll help you grow and pursue what fulfills you so that we can make impacts on the future – big and small, global and local.
If you’re up for the challenge, we’ve been looking for someone just like you.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will exhibit a high level of attention to detail and quality control, being committed to checking their own work and reaching out to peers and seniors for guidance when questions arise. As a member of our team, you must be ready for the responsibility of managing your own workload. Meeting commitments and taking ownership of your portion of the structural scope, reliably working to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements. You may be given tasks with ill-defined conditions of satisfaction; in which case you will be expected to take the initiative to determine what is needed to meet the project and client needs--recognizing when help is needed.
Bring your desire to develop your engineering knowledge and professional judgment, and your exceptional organizational skills and we’ll help you grow, and pursue what drives you – so we can make big impacts on the world, together.
