Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of the Office Chief of Program/ Project Management (PPM), a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer (Senior TE) is responsible for leadership, supervision, and management of the Project Management Support Unit (PMSU), which consists of non-senior level transportation engineers and non-engineering staff. The Senior TE provides guidance to TE Civil and Range-D engineers and will be the focal point for all matters related to project closeouts, value analysis, federal project inactivity, as well as freeway maintenance agreement coordination in support of the PPM Division. Works independently and directly with D8 Budgets/Project Control, District Management, Headquarter (HQ), federal, local agencies and personnel.

Working Conditions
Position located at 464 W 4th St, San Bernardino, CA 92401
While at their base of operation, the incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate. May occasionally take field trips to the project site where knowledge of roadside safety is critical and hard hats & vest must be worn.Special Requirements

- Experience communicating internally with project managers, functions, and Caltrans Divisions and externally with local agencies, Regional Transportation Planning Agencies (RTPS) or Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs).
- Knowledge and experience of the project development process for transportation projects. Knowledge and experience with project closeout activities.
- Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, and direct the work of multi-disciplinary staff in achieving successful project delivery outcomes through teamwork and collaboration.
Position requires a valid Professional Engineer (Civil) license issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
This position requires knowledge of all phases of transportation engineering, including the project development process; principles and techniques of project management; and principles of project funding and budgeting. The incumbent must analyze situations accurately and develop an effective course of action. The incumbent must have the ability to effectively coordinate, negotiate, and communicate orally and in writing within the Department and externally.
