Nurse Manager, Surgical Services

About the Role

Reporting to a Hospital Senior Director the Nurse Manager provides 24-hour leadership and accountability for the department. This role oversees day-to-day operations, ensures compliance with clinical and regulatory standards, and promotes a culture of safety, efficiency, and patient-centered care.

The Nurse Manager serves as both a hands-on clinical leader and operational strategist , guiding a team of skilled nurses and support staff. You’ll collaborate with physicians and hospital leadership to improve outcomes, streamline processes, and enhance the overall surgical experience for patients and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of Surgical Services , ensuring consistent, high-quality care.

  • Manage daily staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Coach and mentor nursing staff, fostering professional growth and engagement.

  • Partner with physicians, anesthesia, and other departments to enhance communication and efficiency.

  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Serve as a clinical resource and role model for excellence in perioperative nursing practice.

  • Support ongoing performance improvement, patient safety, and service quality initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree (MSN) preferred

  • Current California RN license required

  • CPR and ACLS certifications required

  • Operating Room or Nurse Manager certification preferred

  • 3–5 years of recent leadership experience in Surgical Services or Perioperative Care preferred

  • Demonstrated clinical expertise, leadership presence, and communication skills

  • Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and email systems
