Are you passionate about food prep and ready to be part of a top-notch kitchen team? Neighborly is looking for a Commissary Prep Cook in our kitchen in Van Nuys, CA who values quality and teamwork. As a Prep Cook at Neighborly, you’ll play a key role in food preparation under the guidance of our Chef de Cuisine (CDC). From ensuring our ingredients are fresh and ready to helping maintain a clean, organized kitchen, your efforts will support a smooth service and deliver a great experience for every guest. In addition, all hourly team members, including this role, earn tips.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares a variety of dishes ranging from meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other items using Neighborly’s established recipes
Prepares foods by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry or fish for culinary use
Ensures proper food handling techniques to uphold all safety and sanitation requirements
Assumes responsibility for quality of products served
Complies consistently with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures
Stocks and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service
Portions food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications
Prepares all required prep items such as: fresh lettuces & vegetables, sauces and dressings, marinades and portioning of ingredients. As a Prep cook, you will frequently be asked to slice, dice, mix, blend, bread, and portion a variety of ingredients.
Maintains cleanliness and sanitation at all times; participates in opening and closing procedures
Upholds company safety and sanitation requirements to ensure the health and safety of our guests and employees
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Excellent culinary skills
Sense of urgency and able to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
Ability to work as a team-player
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and organize
Able to work flexible hours as necessary
Both Part-Time and Full-Time positions available
All hourly Team Members earn tips
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 1 years experience
High-volume restaurant experience preferred
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
Must have the ability/stamina to work a minimum of 30 hours a week
Ability to stand/walk for 8 hours per day
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Must be able to tolerate potential allergens to include peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood and shellfish
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
$17.50-$20/hour dependent on experience
