Under the general direction of the District Manager, the Office Technician (Typing) will perform a variety of administrative functions for the Enforcement District Office, with the Division of Occupational Safety and Health. The Office Technician is responsible for adhering to the laws, rules, policies and procedures pertaining to civil service employees in general, and specifically to employees of Division of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH). The incumbent will work professionally and cooperatively with the District Office team, the public, DOSH management and employees of DIR/DOSH. In addition, because this position interacts with a wide variety of people and is responsible for viewing, maintaining and communicating with sensitive and confidential information, it is critical that the incumbent maintains professionalism at all times, conducting themselves as representatives of the District Office. The incumbent will be held responsible for maintaining confidentiality.

Working Conditions

This job is located at:
Cal/OSHA American Canyon Office
3419 Broadway Street, Suite H-8, American Canyon CA. 94503.

The incumbent works in an air-conditioned office building with natural and artificial lighting and temperature control. In addition, the incumbent works in a cubicle in close proximity to others in a typical office setting. Typical work requires use of the computer and telephone for extended periods of time and interaction with co-workers.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

This position requires the incumbent to perform sustained typing of at least 40 words per minute.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:


Proficient Knowledge of: Customer service, written communication, arithmetic, modern and business English usage and modern office methods; supplies and equipment including Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and Adobe Acrobat.

Skills: Writing skills to prepare comprehensive reports and summaries; communication and presentation skills to move information between the sender and receiver; computer skills; organizational and time management skills.

Ability to: Perform technical clerical work; make arithmetical computations; prepare correspondence independently utilizing a wide knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and spelling; communicate effectively; interpret, proofread, and edit various documents, report types, and narratives; operate various machines; follow oral and written directions; maintain and organize files; meet and deal tactfully with the public and co-workers; follow rules and office policies and procedures.
