Assistant Professor of History (Early Modern European History)

The Pomona History Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Early Modern European history (c.1400-1800) beginning July 1, 2026. The History Department particularly welcomes applicants who engage in trans-regional and global histories. The successful candidate will offer a range of courses of their own design in their fields of expertise, including an introduction to early modern European history. The teaching commitment is two courses per semester. Candidates should complete their Ph.D. in History or a related discipline by July 2026.

2. three brief (one-page, single-spaced) statements: (a) a teaching statement, including discussion of courses that you have taught and/or hope to teach and how you would approach teaching an introduction to early modern European history; (b) a research statement, including discussion of your interests in the early modern world; and (c) a statement that discusses your demonstrated or potential ability to teach and mentor a diverse student body;

3. a curriculum vitae;

4. a chapter- or article-length writing sample;

6. three letters of recommendation.

Pomona College offers a competitive salary package that includes benefits (health, retirement and tuition remission) and compensation that is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The salary range for this position is $95,000- $100,000.
