We are seeking a dedicated Orthopedic Surgeon to fill a vital locum position at a small rural hospital with a level 3 trauma center. This opportunity offers hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment, with the chance to make a meaningful difference in a community that values quality healthcare. The role requires active hospital-based practice, not recent residency, and involves full general orthopedic coverage, including managing higher-level patient transfers. The position begins January 17, 2026, with a commitment to ongoing, flexible coverage. Required Skills:
- Valid California medical license with current credentials
- CA fluoroscopy certification
- Proven experience in orthopedic surgery, including trauma management
- Ability to perform full general orthopedic procedures
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Active hospital privileges and no negative credentialing issues or NPDB reports
- Experience with Cerner EMR system
- Prior experience in rural healthcare settings
- Additional trauma or emergency surgical experience
- Bilingual skills helpful in community engagement
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
- At least 2 years of post-residency practice in orthopedic surgery
- Prior locum or hospital-based surgical experience preferred but not mandatory
- Willingness to work on a 24/7 schedule, including holidays and call responsibilities
- Ability to fly into Sacramento airport and undertake a two-hour drive to Red Bluff
- Commit to credentialing process which may take up to 30 days
- No required travel or off-site commitments beyond facility-based duties
