Project Engineer - Commercial Flooring

Summary


Our client, a leading commercial flooring contractor based in San Diego, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer . This role is an exciting opportunity for a construction professional with a strong background in project coordination and management to support flooring projects from pre-construction through completion. You’ll work out of their San Diego headquarters, collaborating with general contractors, end users, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are executed successfully.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Pre-Construction & Planning
    • Conduct job site visits to assess project scope, take measurements, and identify logistical challenges.

    • Assist with take-offs and preparation of detailed estimates for labor, materials, and preparation requirements.

  • Project Coordination & Execution
    • Support project managers in overseeing projects from contract award to completion.

    • Help manage schedules, budgets, and quality control for flooring installations.

    • Coordinate with in-house installation teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and execution.

    • Perform regular site visits to verify progress, document field issues, and support resolution efforts.

    • Track and maintain job costing, billing, and change orders throughout the project lifecycle.

    • Assist in identifying risks and implementing corrective actions or process improvements.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience in commercial construction project engineering or project coordination, preferably within the flooring or finishes industry (1–5 years preferred).

  • Strong organizational and project planning skills.

  • Ability to read plans/specs and utilize digital take-off and estimating tools.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
