Senior Director of Research

Capricor is seeking a Senior Director of Research to provide scientific leadership and operational oversight for our Research & Development organization. This individual will lead the exosome research team, manage daily operations, and drive innovation across our therapeutic pipeline. The ideal candidate combines a strong scientific background with proven management and leadership skills, ensuring the successful execution of research strategies that advance Capricor’s mission to deliver transformative therapies.
Responsibilities
- Provide scientific leadership and strategic direction for all R&D activities, with a focus on exosome-based research.
- Actively manage and mentor the research team, ensuring smooth daily operations and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
- Oversee troubleshooting and problem-solving for complex scientific and technical challenges.
- Drive the development and optimization of the exosome research pipeline, including assay design, analytical development, and translational strategies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to align research objectives with organizational goals.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and documentation standards.
- Represent the research function in leadership meetings and contribute to long-term strategic planning.
- Monitor emerging scientific trends and competitive landscape to inform research strategy.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational success.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline with 10+ years of progressive experience in research leadership roles.
- Demonstrated success in managing scientific teams and leading complex research programs.
- Strong background in cell biology, molecular biology, and therapeutic development.
- Proven ability to build and scale research pipelines, including assay development and analytical strategies.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working in dynamic, resource-constrained settings with a problem-solving “can-do” approach to leadership.
- Hands-on experience in exosome research and/or analytical development.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Onsite role in San Diego research facility.
- Laboratory-based leadership position requiring regular interaction with bench scientists and cross-functional teams.
- Fast-paced, collaborative environment with occasional extended hours to meet critical project timelines.
- Physical activities include bench work, pipetting, computer-based analysis, and lifting up to ~25 lbs.
$220,000 - $270,000 a year
