The Human Factors Engineer is responsible for research and development of next generation Cepheid products. In this hands-on role, you will work with Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Management, Innovation and Engineering Development teams to create effective, efficient, engaging, and easy to use products.
This position is part of the R&D Team and will be in Sunnyvale, CA. The Human Factors Engineer will report to the Director of Human Factors Engineering and is responsible for enabling growth through the implementation and sustainment of continuous improvement practices related to Human Factors and Design for Cepheid products and services.
The role is perfect if you are relentlessly customer/ user focused and have a knack for finding answers and solutions to a broad variety of tasks and challenges.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Work strategically with other team members across the organization including product management, digital design and brand, industrial design, user experience design, human factors engineering, software engineering and cross-functional stakeholders to create product user interface design.
- Create a vision and plan for developing, communicating, and implementing the user interface experience via style guides and design system management.
- Drive the development and communication of design guidelines and patterns (clear information architecture) via User Specifications.
- Produce user workflows, wireframes, prototypes, with oversight and guidance from industrial design.
- Plan and execute human factors and user experience testing with internal and external customers. Develop plans, task and use error analysis, test protocols, and reports. Track and trend all user feedback items relating to the graphical and industrial design.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex interaction concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences
- Ability to create user interface mockups using design software (e.g., Axure, Sketch, Figma, Adobe DX, Balsamiq) FIGMA preferred
- Bachelor's or master's degree in: Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors Engineering (HFE), Visual Design, User Experience, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, or related field
- Bachelor's degree + 2-4 years as a UX designer or HFE
- Master's degree + 0-2 years as a UX Designer or HFE
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Experience in UX design in medical device industry

The salary range for this role is 80,000-140,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
