Our East Bay government client is seeking an interim Senior Accountant for a 3-6 month engagement. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled accounting expert to contribute to critical financial operations and support ongoing initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in reconciliation processes, general ledger management, and system implementations while working collaboratively with a dedicated team. This role requires onsite work 5 days a week with the possibility of one remote day every two weeks. Hourly rate is expected to be $60-$65/hr. DOE.

Responsibilities:

• Perform detailed account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards

• Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are properly recorded and categorized

• Prepare and review journal entries to support month-end and year-end closing activities

• Conduct bank reconciliations to ensure alignment between internal records and external statements

• Collaborate on the implementation and finalization of a new utility billing platform, ensuring smooth transition and operational readiness

• Support audit preparation and submission processes by providing accurate and timely financial data

• Analyze financial records to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions

• Assist in training and documentation related to new system implementations and updates

• Work closely with other accounting staff, clerks, and management to streamline and improve financial processes

• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, including fingerprint clearance requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Accountant or similar financial role

• Strong knowledge of general ledger management and journal entry preparation

• Expertise in account and bank reconciliation processes

• Familiarity with system implementation and configuration, particularly in utility billing platforms

• Proficiency in Tyler Munis or similar accounting systems is a plus

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and communicate effectively

• Must pass fingerprinting and background checks as required
