Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Extended Care Teacher to join our team at Hilldale School. This position is responsible for supervising and engaging students during our after-school extended care program. The Extended Care Teacher will create a safe, nurturing environment for students (grades K-8). The position includes overseeing/tutoring students in Homework Club, supervising outdoor recess and planning and conducting small-group activities in areas of staff interest such as arts and crafts, cooking, science, etc. Preference will be given to those with some college background, experience working in an after school setting, and those with classes in child development or education. The ideal candidate will be energetic, patient, and committed to providing a positive experience for children.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and ensure the safety of students during after-school hours.
• Occasionally provide structured activities for students, including arts and crafts, recess games and quiet activities.
• Assist students with homework, ensuring they have a positive and productive learning environment.
• Foster a positive, respectful atmosphere that encourages student engagement and personal development.
• Maintain clear and consistent communication with students, parents, and staff and supervisors.
• Monitor and maintain proper student behavior, promoting conflict resolution and social skills development.
• Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the areas used by Extended Care.
• Administer basic first aid as needed and be aware of any student health conditions and allergies.
• Follow all school policies and expectations regarding self and student safety and behavior.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or higher in education, child development, or a related field is a plus).
• Previous experience working with children in an educational or daycare setting preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to be punctual to all scheduled shifts.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
• First Aid/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to supervise and manage a group of children effectively.
• Negative TB test and fingerprinting

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday - 3:15pm - 6:00pm. Twice a month, there will be staff meetings from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Approximately 8 days out of the school year, we have special events such as Early Release days, Parent’s Night Out and Student Activity Days where Extended Care Teachers are expected to work hours outside of the standard Extended Care schedule. Those shifts can range from 7:30am-3:30pm, 11:30am-6pm and 6pm-10pm, etc. School Year ends June 11, 2027.

Benefits

• Starting rate is $25/hr but may increase depending on experience.
