Position Summary: The Laboratory Medical Assistant supports laboratory operations by performing administrative and clinical tasks. This role ensures proper specimen collection, preparation, and processing while assisting with day-to-day operations, maintaining equipment, and delivering excellent patient care.
Essential Functions:
- Collect blood, urine, and other samples from patients following proper protocols.
- Label and document specimens accurately to ensure identification and traceability.
- Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
- Provide clear instructions to patients regarding sample collection procedures.
- Monitor patient conditions during sample collection and report any adverse reactions.
- Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintain patient records in laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers to share laboratory results promptly.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Keep track of supplies and place orders to maintain adequate inventory.
- Ensure the lab complies with safety and quality standards, such as OSHA regulations.
- Participate in quality control checks and proficiency testing.
- Follow lab safety guidelines and dispose of biohazardous waste appropriately.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with CAP, CLIA, or other accrediting agencies.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited program required.
- 1-2 years previous experience in a medical or laboratory setting is a plus.
- Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification is required.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and medical terminology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
- Proficiency in computer systems and laboratory information systems a plus
- Attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of confidentiality standards (HIPAA).

The range is subject to change.
