Associate Director of Compliance
Summary:
The Associate Director of Compliance position is responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance across the company’s cannabis operations, including cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution. This role serves as a subject matter expert on California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) regulations, as well as applicable requirements from ancillary and local agencies. The Associate Director will partner with cross-functional teams to embed a culture of compliance throughout the organization, ensure audit readiness, and proactively manage regulatory risk.

- Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of California cannabis regulations governing commercial cannabis activity under California Business and Professions Code, including regulations of ancillary cannabis permitting agencies; CA Dept. of Food and Agriculture, CA State Waterboards, Air Pollution Control Districts., and CA Dept. of Pesticide Regulation.
- Manage adherence to compliance requirements across supply chain, including cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution operations.
- Ensure operations maintain compliance with DCC regulations, local ordinances, and ancillary agencies.
- Ensure full adherence to DCC track-and-trace requirements via METRC, including inventory reconciliation, manifests, adjustments, and chain-of-custody documentation.
- Monitor and respond to DCC regulatory notices, updates, emergency actions, and guidance documents; communicate compliance impacts to operational leadership.
- Support license renewals, amendments, and notifications with the DCC, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Oversee development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned with current CA Cannabis regulations for supply chain functions.
- Oversee regulatory reporting submittals as required for ancillary agencies and manage reporting for Regulatory Compliance to State and Local authorities.
- Support ongoing maintenance of centralized recordkeeping system and compliance resource materials.
- Collaborate with management to effectively incorporate compliance program. Identify potential risk areas. Distribute and communicate compliance requirements, recommendations, and materials to responsible parties.
- Conduct and report semi-annual audits of supply chain operations and keep departments accountable for resolutions to audit findings.
- Produce quarterly report on supply chain compliance, track and report status updates.
- Assist in ongoing development of in-house staff compliance education and compliance trainings.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure employees possess and maintain required registrations and certifications, per local and state compliance requirements.
- Lead DCC and county cannabis inspections and routine visits, conduct pre-inspection audits and site review (in collaboration with site management). Oversee post-inspection corrections when applicable.
- Monitor inspections and required reporting for ancillary regulatory agencies (i.e. Waterboard, APCD, CERS) with designated internal team members.
- Provide additional support to other projects and initiatives as assigned.
Education and Experience/Requirements:
- 5+ years of applicable work experience, including 3+ years in commercial cannabis and 2+ years in management/leadership positions
- Associate’s Degree
- Bachelor’s Degree is a plus
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements
- Project management experience with a track record of successful program implementation
- Experience administering a compliance program, preferably at a vertically integrated or multi-state or national company

- Authorized to work in the United States
- This position requires a 40-hour minimum work week
- Must be able to write and communicate effectively across teams.

Travel
Reliable transportation is necessary for this position. Travel between the office or home office and other company locations is required monthly, which may be adjusted as needed by management.
