Compensation: $18.00 - 19.24 /hr
Program Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30am - 3:30p m, Position is based on a school-year calendar that may change each year.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Position Summary
During the school day, the Adult Assistant models appropriate behavior and supports students with learning, emotional, and developmental challenges in dealing with their daily behavioral and social-emotional needs. Before or after school the Bus Aide will supervise students during the morning or afternoon bus routes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student - Remain within physical proximity of assigned student(s) at all times:
· Assist with individual student(s)’ emotional/psychological needs.
· Monitor student(s) during the school day in class, during nutrition, and lunch.
· Escort student(s) to assigned classes and related activities.
· Use approved Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) techniques to de-escalate, physically escort, or contain a student in crisis during the school day.
· Develop rapport with student(s)
Classroom
· Accurately document the Behavioral/Social-Emotional activities of students and update the teacher on student information, behavioral changes, and other pertinent information.
· Support the teacher's case management for assigned student(s) as it pertains to preparation for IEP meetings, parent conferences, and matriculation.
· Support the teacher’s maintenance of student records including Pupil Records of Progress (completed daily), parent contacts and conferences, behavioral check sheets, progress on behavioral goals, and other documentation as needed.
· Implement the behavior intervention plan and/ or behavior goal with the student.
· Collect and document data concerning student(s) and share with the teacher.
Transportation Route-
· Bus Aide supervises the students in the morning or the afternoon bus rides.
· Use approved Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) techniques to de-escalate, physically escort, or contain a student in crisis while on the bus/van rides.
Other Duties
• Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
• Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
• Regular, reliable attendance.
• Attend and participate in trainings, meetings, and activities as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year working with children with special needs, learning, behavioral, emotional and/or developmental disabilities in a direct service capacity.
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
• Good written and verbal communication skills to direct students, write case notes, and keep records.
• Computer skills sufficient to conduct internet research.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to model professional behavior.
• Ability to de-escalate students in crisis and implement NCI as appropriate.
• Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.
• Ability to maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and boundaries at all times.
• Ability to assist students with personal hygiene needs including toileting, illness and incidents of incontinence as needed (community-based instruction employees only).
Requirements
• Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of car insurance, and insurable driving record.
· Driving is an essential function of this position. Proof of valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of state-mandated car insurance, and insurable driving record are required. While driving for work, should a need arise, the employee’s insurance is deemed primary and ECF’s coverage is secondary.
Driving Disclaimer - Employees driving for company business must maintain a clean record and operate vehicles safely and responsibly. Company vehicles will be monitored and activity recorded. Violations of the driving policy may result in disciplinary action, including suspension of driving privileges, reassignment, or termination.
• Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
• Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid, and CPR certification.
Work Environment
This is a school environment for students (K–12 th grade) who have varying degrees of learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Work will be performed in a classroom and outdoors. Indoor temperature is comfortable; outdoor temperature and weather will vary. The environment may include frequent interruptions, loud noise, odors, and drafts. Employees may encounter students who are in crisis, exhibiting emotional/psychological behaviors, or behaving aggressively. Employees may not be in a room alone with a student unless the door or blinds are open. Students must never be left unattended.

• Mobility to work in a standard office or classroom setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
• Ability to circulate among and engage with the student(s) during the entire work shift.
• Sitting, standing, walking, speaking, listening, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, carrying, and use of both hands will be required in the performance of the job duties
• Vision to read printed materials and computer screens.
• Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
• Require the use of hands to produce records and/or documentation in manual or electronic format.
• Ability to implement/perform First Aid, CPR, and NCI.
• Frequent lifting/moving/carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
